Buying land is one of the best moves a Kenyan can make, but paying for it is often the hardest part. Many people have the dream and the location in mind, yet lack the cash to pay in one go. On Friday, September 18, 2026, Fanaka and Co-operative Bank of Kenya signed a partnership built to solve exactly that problem. Fanaka provides the land, and the bank provides the financing.

Who Is Fanaka?
Fanaka is a Kenyan company that sells land in fast-growing areas around Nairobi. Its projects cover growth corridors such as Kangundo Road, Kamakis, Ruiru, Thika Road, Mombasa Road, Kitengela, Ngong, and Kikuyu, where more families are settling, building, and investing every year.
The company is known for offering genuine plots with proper documentation. Before it sells land, it carries out checks to confirm that the land is real and free of problems. In a country where many people have lost money to fake titles and dishonest sellers, this focus on trust matters. Fanaka now has four branches, so buyers can get help close to where they live or work.
Who Is Co-operative Bank?
Co-operative Bank of Kenya is one of the country's largest lenders. It offers everyday banking services to individuals, businesses, and groups, along with a wide range of loans and financing options. Its mortgage arm, Good Home Mortgage, helps people buy and build homes with repayment plans that are easier to manage.
The bank's size speaks for itself. It reports total assets of over KES 869 billion, a network of 223 branches, 619 SACCO front offices, more than 16,000 Co-op Kwa Jirani agents, and 609 ATMs and cash deposit machines. That reach means customers can be served almost anywhere they choose to buy.

What Was Said at the Signing
Speaking at the signing, Co-operative Bank Head of Mortgage Finance Fridah Mitei said the bank has the scale, reach, and capacity to support customers across the country. She said the bank is committed to putting our customers at the heart of everything we do. She described Fanaka as a growing player in Kenya's property market, with projects in key growth corridors, and said its promise of turning dreams into reality fits well with the goals of the partnership.
Fanaka CEO Moses Muriithi praised the bank's work in financial inclusion, which he said benefits everyone in society. He explained that the partnership will let more Kenyans acquire land in the places they prefer, and then develop it. In his words, buyers will have land and also somewhere they can put up a home. He added that land is more than an investment, because it can also carry a family's legacy forward.

What the Partnership Offers
The idea is simple. Fanaka gives customers access to land. Co-operative Bank gives them financing options to pay for it and to develop it afterwards, whether they want to build a family home or a commercial property.
The bank's offering includes the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) Home Loan and the Buy-and-Build Mortgage. This means a buyer can plan the whole journey, from purchasing the land to putting up a building, with one bank walking alongside them. The bank has advertised its KMRC home loan at 9.9 percent on a reducing balance, with financing of up to 100 percent for buying a built house and up to 90 percent of property value for building one. These figures are subject to the bank's assessment and terms, so confirm the latest details with the bank.
Why This Matters for Land Buyers
For many Kenyans, the biggest barrier to owning land is not the wish to own it. It is the money needed upfront, and the difficulty of finding financing for both the plot and the house. This partnership helps in several ways:
Less pressure on your savings. Financing lets you spread the cost instead of finding everything at once.
One clear journey. You can move from choosing a plot to planning your home without starting over.
Two trusted names. You buy from a land company that checks its plots, and you borrow from an established bank.
Freedom to choose. You can pick a plot in the area that suits you, then plan how to develop it.
The deal also follows Fanaka's earlier partnership with KUPPET Nairobi, which helps teachers acquire land and develop it within the Nairobi area. Together, these steps show a clear push to make land ownership open to more people.

How to Get Started
Choose a project. Contact Fanaka to see the available plots and their prices.
Talk about financing. Ask about the Co-operative Bank options that fit your income and goals.
Prepare your documents. For construction finance, the bank usually expects approved architectural and structural drawings, a priced bill of quantities, NCA compliance documents, and clean land title documents, among other requirements.
Complete the purchase. Once approved, the process moves ahead with support from both teams.
Plan your build. If you want to build, ask about Buy-and-Build financing.
Loan terms and eligibility are set by the bank, so always confirm the current details with Co-operative Bank and Fanaka before you commit.
Turn Your Land Dream into a Plan
